It is known by all that the summer season in Seville does not understand truces. Since May a summer marked by sweltering temperatures, thinking about the months of June, July and August implies the inseparable need to seek shelter: it’s about time to investigate in natural pools.
Save this article for when you’re tired of reducing your plans to weekend activities, like going to the city’s most picturesque flea markets or trying out the liveliest bars.
Because grabbing a few cool beers in the shade of the terraces is not incompatible with other refreshing alternatives.
These natural pools are paradises in the province of Seville that serve as inland beaches without the need for an overnight stay. Perfect oases for a dip, if the bathroom is enabled, and free of charge.
1. José Torán Reservoir
Between Constantina, Lora del Río and La Puebla de los Infantes, the José Torán reservoir is a magnificent location for fishing, watching the sunset from the Mirador Las Palomas (you can reach the apex by car) or bathing in the area designated for this purpose.
Next to the Puebla campsite you have this space where you can take a dip among holm oaks and carob trees. It is accessed through the Camino de los almendros.
2. The lakes of Serrano

Three kilometers from El Ronquillo is this area, crossed by the Ruta de la Plata, the Camino de Santiago and the ancient Roman road.
With such a convergence of roads, it is not complicated to imagine the beauty of these lakes, ideal for water activities or hiking trails.
3. La Minilla Reservoir

Another essential to combat the heat of the city in an aquatic environment is the Minilla reservoir. An ideal place to spend a day with the whole family, spend a day fishing, plan a hiking route and enjoy a place full of nature.
4. El Pintado Reservoir

It is near Cazalla de la Sierra and has several picnic areas and camping area. As in any swamp, you have to be careful as there may be slopes but, well looked at, you can have a modest day of “beach” quiet in which you will not find those jams that are formed to go to Matalascañas.
5. El Martinete

It is perfect if you want to go for a couple of days to a campsite, as here is one located in the Natural Park of the Sierra Norte de Sevilla. Next to it is the banks of the Huéznar River, where we can delight ourselves with a good assortment of waterfalls and pools. Although in theory bathing is not allowed, it is worth it just to enjoy this visual spectacle.
6. Margarita Island

It is also known as “Isla del pescador” (Fisherman’s Island) because of a sculpture located nearby. This enclave in the Sierra Norte has some dreamy natural pools.
Although it is advisable to go during the week; on holidays it is usually crowded. If you also feel like taking a small route through the surroundings after the bath you can go to the area of the Fábrica del Pedroso, where you will see some artificial waterfalls.

7. Las Calderas

In the town of Villaverde del Río, this place is also known as Pozos de Villaverde. The Siete Arroyos river forms spectacular bathing areas in this enclave. Vegetation, pools and waterfalls surround the clear water of this paradise.
8. San Nicolás del Puerto

This green paradise already has a recognized fame. It is undoubtedly one of the best options to take a dip.

9. Bonus: natural swimming pool in the middle of a village

The Cañaveral de León is one of the most popular pools in Andalusia and no wonder. A lagoon that serves for recreational bathing during the summer and is located in the middle of the municipality.
The lagoon collects the surplus water from the spring and from there distributes it to different pools in the orchards. The result is this sort of improvised swimming pool located in the middle of the town.
