The turning on of the Christmas lights emulates a kind of cataclysm whose main function lies in establishing the beginning of Christmas; thus, in Seville it will take place next December 2 and a juicy seasonal programming will be launched. So juicy that the goal is to turn Seville into an “unprecedented” reference, with an ambitious audiovisual show that will be projected on the river.
Hundreds of streets will be illuminated and embellished with shapes and colors during the coming weeks. Although they will not be the only elements expected this December.
If in 2021 the largest LED light tree in Europe was installed in the Plaza de San Francisco, and in 2022 a 16-meter cathedral, this year the space will be presided over by curtains of lights and a stage to host daily shows.
In the words of the mayor, “we are going to continue working year after year to become the biggest Christmas reference in Spain“.
Navigalia, a mapping on the Guadalquivir River
This year the great novelty falls on the Guadalquivir. It will be on its waters where an ambitious mapping will be projected . A visual spectacle in Triana’s zapa, the sheet of water or the dock of the Salt that responds to the name of Navigalia. Specifically, it will tell a story of Christmas spirit about Seville.
For the occasion will be installed bleachers with capacity to accommodate 12,500 people. The screenings in question, which will last for 12 minutes, will start on December 20 with three daily screenings: at 8:00 pm, 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm. Other news to be highlighted for this Christmas program is that the bridges of Triana, San Telmo and Los Remedios will be illuminated for the first time.
“We work to make Seville a benchmark in Christmas programming, which is called A river of illusion, with respect to other capitals of Spain,” detailed Mayor Sanz.

Therefore, it is worth mentioning Inari, the little village that emulates Lapland in the Fibes from December 16, the Mediaset chimes in the capital, the display of traditional nativity scenes or activities in the Real Alcázar, among others.
The Sevillian palace will be transformed into “a great Christmas scenic space” in the words of the director of the Municipal Symphonic Band of Seville Francisco Javier Gutiérrez Juan. However, as has become tradition, it will host the sale of convent sweets from December 5 to 9.
