To take a dip, it is no longer necessary to leave Seville. Some of its municipal swimming pools opened at the beginning of June and its aquatic parks are also ready to welcome the summer season. Nevertheless, and beyond the nearby beaches summer can also be solved with indoor plans that include, as is the case, one of the largest swimming pools in Europe: we are talking about Amurjo.
Amurjo, a pool on the Orcera river surrounded by pine trees
In the foothills of the Sierra de Segura, the natural pool of Amurjo (Orcera, Jaén) looks like a refreshing Eden capable of accommodating 1,250 people at a time.
With the passage of time this enclave built in 1972 (its space was once occupied by an agricultural irrigation reservoir) has been transformed to acquire the appearance that looks today and that receives every year thousands of bathers.
Its dimensions are around 85 meters long and 20 meters wide and a total of 1,531 square meters surrounded by lush pine forests.
The water of this natural pool is derived from the Orcera River, which after reaching the Amurjo area continues its course. Filling it involves some 4 million liters of water in a process that can take up to two days.
Prices and vouchers
The Amurjo swimming pool has showers, bar and restaurant and the price of access is quite affordable, although there is also the possibility of acquiring vouchers for the summer.
