One of the best things about Christmas is being able to enjoy with the family the typical food of these dates, and the sweet that can not miss in any house is the roscón de Reyes. Every year everyone takes to the streets on Three Kings Day to fight for the best roscón in their city, and Seville is no exception. You can find them artisan, supermarket, in your trusted bakery and even make them yourself at home, but in Seville you can also get a 100% vegan roscón.
The vegan roscón of Lalita Café
The sweet comes from the hand of Lalita Café, a cafeteria located on Calle José Luis de Casso, 38, next to the Sanchez Pizjuan stadium. Although it offers a wide variety of breakfasts and desserts, its specialty at this time of the year are the limited edition roscones, which have become popular in Seville for their high quality. This year it will have a new star product, the vegan roscón, which will not contain butter, eggs or any other type of ingredient of animal origin.
For its preparation, it will use as a base a spongy dough similar to brioche made with vegetable margarine and, of course, with orange blossom water. The most debated element, equivalent to the omelette with or without onion, is the filling of the roscón, which is optional at the Lalita Café. This year the vegan filling consists of a cream of rice pudding. What is indispensable, the hallmark of the roscón of this place, is the finishing with nuts, which is on top instead of the candied fruit.
Price and opening hours
Its price is 23 or 26 euros, depending on whether it has a filling. Although its vegan roscón has only one size, 500 grams, Lalita offers a multitude of other options with various fillings, which are sold in small or large sizes (850 grams). Given the limited nature of this delicacy, it is recommended to place an order, especially if it is for Epiphany. However, they can also be enjoyed in the cafeteria itself, which during these weeks serves them as a breakfast and snack option.
The establishment’s opening hours, which can be consulted on its website, vary depending on the day of the week. From Monday to Friday it is open from 9:00 to 11:45 a.m. and from 4:30 to 7:15 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. On Sundays, however, it is closed. In addition, it is important to note that the hours may change on these dates, especially on holidays and long weekends.
