Thinking about getaways in Andalusia (taking advantage of the imminent February 28 long weekend) does not necessarily imply a search for peace and quiet. Far from referring us to calm destinations, we compile options for all tastes. Leave Seville to discover small villages, unbeatable cities or events as solicitous as the Carnival of Cadiz.
You will have more than enough reasons to choose one (or several) of the upcoming holidays and allow yourself a few days of exploration. Here are our recommendations.
Cadiz Carnival
One of the best destinations for the long weekend in Andalusia are the carnivals of Cadiz, where the best coplas resound. A city that never radiates as much vitality as this month.
This year, it extends its centenary traditions from February 27 to March 9. The grand finale of the Gran Teatro Falla Grouping Contest will take place on the 28th of the same month to give (practically) the starting signal for these days of celebration.
Cordoba
Fortunately for the Sevillians, Cordoba is a nearby city with good communications by train and bus, if you do not have a car.
Its beauty and size, fully accessible for a day visit, make it a charming city to visit at least once in a lifetime.
Lose yourself in the Jewish quarter, discover the imposing Mosque-Cathedral or be surprised by lesser-known gems such as the Palacio de Viana.
If you have days to spare or if you are thinking of visiting a village in the Subbetica of Cordoba, Zuheros is one of the most beautiful destinations in the province.
Aracena
Just an hour and a half from Seville we have a perfect Huelva destination for a weekend getaway: Aracena.
This town of about 8000 inhabitants has several tourist attractions such as the castle, buildings of renowned Sevillian architects (Aníbal González and the Sánchez and Dalp brothers), the incredible natural park of Sierra de Aracena or the Gruta de las Maravillas (Cave of Wonders).
And for the grace of avid diners, very close to Aracena, in Fuenteheridos, Lieva is one of the best dining options, recently recognized as one of the best openings in the country, according to the Macarfi Guide.
Granada
Granada and the always imperative need to return, to revisit the Alhambra again and again, on pain of going through a whole horde of tourists.
You will gladly join the crowded (and not so crowded) alleys of the Albaicín that will lead you to one of the most emblematic viewpoints in the whole country.
Getaways like this, where you will not get tired of walking through its corners and tapas bars on a date like the bridge of Andalusia.
Sanlúcar de Barrameda
It is in this charming coastal town where the Guadalquivir River flows into the sea, and it has more than enough reasons to be one of the favorites of Sevillians.
Escape for the bridge of Andalusia is a no-brainer, Sanlucar is synonymous with good food, with a cuisine that surrenders to friedfish and spectacular sunsets.
Ronda
One of the most touristy villages in Malaga, ideal for a weekend away from the city. Not highly recommended if you suffer from vertigo, but its views from the Puente Nuevo will make you wonder why you’ve never been there before.
We included it in our list of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia, and no wonder.
However, those who want to indulge in a gastronomic treat can celebrate great feasts in Bardal (Ronda) or Mesón Sabor Andaluz (Alcalá del Valle), great Michelin stars in the vicinity.
Cazorla
A town nestled in the mountains with centuries of history. Its people, its legends and its tapas route will make you want to spend the whole year there. Did you know that the Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas is the largest protected area in Spain and the second largest in Europe? Not much.
