Seville’s street map is riddled with visual gems, pure regionalism, iconic buildings but also buildings with other kinds of stories marked by terror.
These are places that enclose paranormal stories, crimes and tortures, that have been (or are) inhabited by creatures of ultra-darkness and that sponsor a certain mystery when crossing their doors.
We will tour some of these buildings marked or not by legends of terror.
1. Hospital of the Five Wounds
One of the places in Seville that has always been surrounded by a halo of mystery is the Hospital de las Cinco Llagas, currently the Parliament of Andalusia. Its walls have seen thousands of people die when the city was ravaged by the plague.
It is one of the most famous buildings of Seville, also plagued by horror stories, ghosts and psychophonies. Or so they say.
Especially Sister Ursula, a nun who worked here in the eighteenth century and noted for her cruelty. Legend has it that she enjoyed the pain of others and to this day, continues to provoke discomfort from beyond the grave.
2. The House of the Sirens
This mansion proves that once in the vicinity of the Alameda de Hércules the neighbors lived in abundance.
It has had functions as varied as a brothel, but if the Casa de las Sirenas is known for something, it is the famous ghost that still nests within its walls.
It is said that this spirit was a descendant of the Portilla family, confined in the house because of his homosexual condition.
There are theories that maintain that he was confined voluntarily, but others believe that the family tied him up so that the sin would not come to light.
3. The Faculty of Fine Arts
The Faculty of Fine Arts is another of those properties that have not managed to escape horror stories. The paranormal presences in this space have given rise to more than one program of Cuarto Milenio.
In fact, some inexplicable events continue to occur in the building that have made even the security guards abandon their posts.
One of the ghosts with more repercussions in the hereafter is Santiago, a young man who worked as a model for the faculty and eventually became part of the maintenance of the building.
Officially, he died at home of a heart attack. However, on the very night of his death, two cleaners noticed that the ivy had been pulled out and heard very disturbing noises.
After his death, all kinds of paranormal phenomena followed, to the point where the University of Seville opened a paranormal investigation for the first time.
4. Monsalves Palace
This building is one of the main scenes of the series Allí abajo and at the same time a focus of paranormal events.
However, the black legends surrounding the palace have been revived with statements by María León in which she says she has seen things without explanation such as showers that opened by themselves or very strange noises.
Even the team of the series has baptized a ghost of a girl with the name of Rocío.
5. Vilima Warehouses
This building on Puente y Pellón Street is currently closed. However, it is said that on the third floor of the store, the toy and shoe shop, all kinds of strange events took place.
Strange silhouettes have been recorded inside and it was very common for shoes to change places or for strollers to start up by themselves.
Anecdotally, the director Alex de la Iglesia filmed a scene from the movie Crimen ferpecto in this building and when they were printing the negatives, part of the footage was missing and strange sounds had been recorded that no one could identify.
