You no longer have to leave Seville to take a dip. Itsmunicipal pools and artificial “beaches”are practically in full swing this summer season. However, beyond thenearby beaches, summer can also be enjoyed with indoor plansthat include, as is the case here, one of the largest pools in Europe: we’re talking about Amurjo.
Amurjo, a pool on the Orcera River surrounded by pine trees
In the foothills of the Sierra de Segura, thenatural poolat Amurjo (Orcera, Jaén) feels likea refreshing paradise capable of accommodating 1,250 people at a time.
Over time, this site built in 1972 (the space was once occupied by an agricultural irrigation reservoir) has gradually transformed into the place it is today, welcoming thousands of swimmers every year.
Its dimensions measureapproximately 85 meters longand 20 meters wide, covering a total of 1,531 square meters surrounded by lush pine forests.
The water in this natural pool comes from the Orcera River, which continues its course after reaching the Amurjo area. Filling it requires about 4 million liters of water in a process that can take up to two days.
