The sporting calendar in Seville kicked off at the end of January with the Half Marathon, a popular event closely followed by another event for runners: the Zurich Marathon in February. The proximity of the dates has complicated traffic in Seville, which has also been affected by the tractor protest and the usual roadworks throughout the city.
For all these reasons, Seville City Council has decided to space out the two events, and the 2026 Seville Half Marathon will be moved to the end of November.
Why is the Seville Half Marathon being moved to November?
This strategic move by the City Council seeks to avoid logistical chaos in the city, which traditionally suffered two major traffic disruptions on Avenida de la Palmera in less than 30 days. By scheduling this race in November, there will be a two-month gap between it and the Night Race and almost three months between it and the Marathon.
“Thus, in 2026, the only race that will take place between Holy Week and the Feria will be the one in the Cerro Amate district, which will mainly run around Amate Park, while at Christmas only the Christmas Race and the San Silvestre Sevillanas will be held, both in María Luisa Park.”
In its last edition, the Seville Half Marathon broke its historical record with 20,000 runners, which is 3,000 more participants than in 2025 and almost double the number five years ago. Such a large number of people, added to the logistics of the start and finish lines in La Palmera, made it unsustainable to maintain the current format linked to the Marathon.
On the other hand, the decision taken by the city council means that the Half Marathon loses its preparatory character for the Marathon for many runners.
