Spring in Seville unfolds with a wealth of its classic attractions, from the Holy Week tradition to irreverent exhibitions and the third edition of the ‘Danza en el CAAC’ series hosted by the Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art. This 2026 season kicked off on March 8 with ‘Montar un cuerpo’ and ‘Perseidas, ‘ two contemporary pieces created by women.
This Sunday, April 12, starting at 12:00 p.m., the former Monastery of La Cartuja will once again serve as the venue for this free event. Once again, two contemporary dance pieces promise to stir emotions and make the most of the venue’s unique architecture.
What will you see? Two stops, two stories
The ‘Danza en el CAAC’ series, curated by María González Vidal, offers an artistic itinerary that divides the morning into two powerful acts:
1. ‘Lola y los lamentos’ (Drea Castro)
Drea Castro offers an introspective and emotional journey through her alter ego, Lola. The artist from A Coruña questions everything she once believed to be unshakable in this intimate 12-minute piece set to music by Gregotehno that will not leave you indifferent. It will take place in El Refectorio.
2. ‘Rhythm’ (Marcat Dance)
Meanwhile, the Arco de San Miguel will host ‘Rhythm,’ a project by Marcat Dance directed by Mario Bermúdez. Dancers Alessia Sinato and Marilisa Gallicchio, in an exercise of pure energy and synchronization, explore how rhythm shapes our existence.
It is a visually hypnotic choreography designed to blend with the monumental surroundings and lasts 16 minutes.
A series to mark on your calendar
Will you miss it this Sunday? You still have several opportunities to discover the ‘Dance at the CAAC’ series.
The event takes place on the second Sunday of every month in May, September, October, and November.
It’s the perfect excuse to see how modern choreographic languages interact with the historic walls of Seville.
In any case, since this is a free event held in such an iconic venue, we recommend arriving about 15 minutes early to find your spot and enjoy the walk between performances.
