In the thirteenth century Alfonso X The Wise would give the castle and the town of Estepa to the Order of Santiago, thus linking this popular Christmas town with the city of Seville. In this regard, the Real Alcazar has been hosting for years its crowded exhibition of convent sweets or the delivery of free mantecados and polvorones of Estepa to its visitors.
Except for the year of the pandemic, there are already eight years that have been celebrating these seasonal treats that sweeten our Christmas.
This palatial heritage complex registered a record number of visits last September, reaching 207,858 and treasuring throughout 2024 1,761,173 visits.
An initiative that puts in value the historical and gastronomic heritage of the province bringing together mantecados and polvorones of Estepa in this powerful tourist enclave.
And is that hosting this exhibition enhances even more if possible, the visibility of this product to foreign tourism, since a high percentage of daily visits come from people outside our borders.
When to taste mantecados for free at the Alcázar
Specifically, those who drop by the Real Alcázar of Seville will be able to taste sweet treats on Saturdays and Sundays until Christmas.
The Regulatory Council of the denomination of origin of the mantecado de Estepa and polvorón de Estepa will be responsible for distributing the necessary samples.
In addition to the usual visits, the activity “Naturaleza Encendida” (Lit Nature) summons an average of 2,500 visitors during the nights of the weekend, as well as the exhibition on the figure of Felipe VI.
