The arid landscape that encircles the roads in Almeria is not able to anticipate the treasures that the westernmost region of Almeria holds. A land whose miscellany includes sleeping volcanoes mining towns, coves with sensational seabed crystal clear waters and some of the best beaches in Andalusia. Almost a memory of the Canary Islands with dyes of postcard of the Greek islands is this coastal province that gives us back jewels like the Isleta del Moro.
The toasted tones, the whitewashed houses and the infinite blue of the sea work as the palette of this small village with less than 200 inhabitants. La Isleta del Moro, in the heart of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, was once a refuge for Barbary pirates. And was given this name because of the small rock that emerges off the coast.
In the vicinity of Los Escullos this charming peninsula offers one of the best postcards of Andalusia.
La Isleta del Moro, a charming village
The small houses that make up this sort of shantytown retain the appearance of fishermen’s houses, modest and well preserved with their blue painted doors. An ideal destination to disconnect and indulge in summer activities. Taste the sand of its beaches in a horizontal position, savor its pescaíto frito and not to miss the unnegotiable breaks: appetizer and beer under the sun.
Two cliffs guard this small town from which two beaches emerge: the Peñón Blanco beach and the Isleta cove. Next to the pier, its winding streets or its viewpoint, another one stands out, a few kilometers away from the town (the Amethyst) that offers unbeatable views of the surroundings, the Mediterráneo and the rugged landscape behind it.
Where to eat and other activities
The cheerful boats dye of colors this summer stamp and advance the gastronomic feasts that one can get in the handful of restaurants that you will find here. La Ola is one of the most successful options: fresh fish without fail, but also rice, clams or salads to whet your appetite.
And when it comes to alternative activities here and nearby , diving is always a resounding yes. There are several centers available for a baptism or an initiation course. However, for the more novice divers, exploring the waters with a simple snorkel mask is an enriching experience.
