The Seville City Council, in order to promote the use of public transport and control access to bus-taxi lanes, has installed video surveillance cameras in various areas of the city. Although the system was to come into force on July 1, the IV International Conference on Financing and Development of the United Nations (UN) has postponed its activation.
Specifically, the cameras will start operating this Friday, July 4, in 11 strategic locations. From the Consistory remember that “Seville has a network of 46.9 kilometers of lanes reserved for public transport, which is shared with cab services, motorcycles and electric vehicles”.
The budget for this action amounts to 105,279.27 euros and imitates those already launched in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.
Where are these video surveillance cameras located?
The locations where the video surveillance cameras are installed are not trivial. They are 11 strategic areas that include the busy Paseo Colón, Ronda Capuchinos or Recaredo. They are as follows:
- Paseo Colón corner Dos de Mayo street.
- Paseo Colón on the corner of Antonia Díaz street.
- Arjona Street corner Plaza de La Legión.
- Ronda Capuchinos corner Carretera de Carmona.
- Recaredo Street corner San Alonso de Orozco Street.
- Plaza Doña María de las Mercedes access to Carlos V Avenue.
- Resolana Street corner Feria Street.
- Street Enramadilla corner street Avión Cuatro Vientos.
- Torneo Street corner Narciso Bonaplata Street.
- Torneo Street corner Baños Street.
- Bridge Cristo de la Expiración – Plaza de Armas Station.
Who will be able to use the bus-taxi lane in Seville?
Since these devices come into force, only Tussam public services, school or special transport with passengers as well as regular and discretionary service buses, motorcycles and mopeds will be able to use the lane in question.
Fines for invading the bus lane
One of the big questions is how much the fines can be. Fines for driving without authorization in bus-taxi lanes carry a fine of 260 €, with a surcharge of 30% in case of non-payment.
