There are villages that the light of Seville does not end up overshadowing and stand out as ideal alternatives for a rural getaway. Of all of them there is one that brings together three major claims. Estepa is artistic heritage; impressive viewpoint its Balcony of Andalusia and home of traditional mantecados and polvorones.
A handful of headlines are enough to encourage us to return to this town that crowns the Seville countryside and smells like Christmas 365 days a year.
Reasons to visit Estepa

This enclave was of importance during the Roman domination although its origins are prehistoric. As it usually happens in so many towns in Andalusia, Estepa would be Visigoth, Muslim and Christian, finally, after the passage of Ferdinand III in 1241.
The historical legacy of Estepa, declared a Historic-Artistic Site since 1965, is of an unparalleled wealth in the province.
From the top of the hill of San Cristobal, we said, can be seen with the clear sky Seville, Cordoba and even Malaga. In addition to strolling through the fortified complex, the churches of Santa María la Mayor and San Sebastián are worth a look.
Season of mantecados and polvorones (shortbread and polvorones)

Thinking about winter, beyond falling into the whole Christmas imaginary, involves dreaming about seasonal sweets.
Mantecados, polvorones, roscones and other delicacies come together in the coming months and that in Estepa they know well.
Cradle of all the Christmas elaborations that one can imagine, its manufacturers are already starting all the preparations for the season. That’s right, “Mantecados de Estepa” and “Polvorones de Estepa” are stocked with raw materials with an eye on the coming weeks.
And is that the 2025 campaign has officially begun. The 18 companies that are part of the Regulatory Council of the Protected Geographical Indications (PGI) Mantecados y Polvorones de Estepa, have already set up all the machinery.

Both Christmas products, the mantecado and polvorón, dispense in Estepa direct employment to 2,000 people. A job that, moreover, performed mostly by women.
José María Fernández, president of the Control Board stressed that “our commitment is that families can continue to enjoy the authentic Mantecados and Polvorones de Estepa, with the best quality and the best possible price. They are part of our identity, and we want them to continue to be present on every Christmas table”.
Travel to Estepa to get a handful of boxes of mantecados or other food? The answer is definitely yes. This sweet enclave has become a reference in recent years, not necessarily at Christmas time.
Taste handmade delicacies in any of its stores and factories, visit the Chocolate City or the Museum of Mantecado, or take a heritage tour. Estepa has no shortage of charms or activities to promote its budding tourism.
