Kani San, Fismuler, Flama… All these names have something in common: they are recent openings in Seville that are making their mark this fall. They are not, however, the only new additions to the culinary scene: San Ginés, the historic Madrid chocolate shop founded in 1894, is preparing to open in Seville.
To Seville’s long-established confectionery institutions—from La Campana to La Centenaria—we can now add this brand, which is set to open at 10 Álvarez Quintero Street, just a stone’s throw from Plaza del Salvador. It is expected to open in December, just in time for the Christmas season.
The chosen location is no coincidence: the area surrounding the Collegiate Church of the Divine Savior, one of the city’s great Baroque churches, has been home to commerce and daily life for centuries. And San Ginés assures us that it does not intend to replace Sevillian traditions, but rather to join them as yet another gathering place for locals and visitors alike.
A new spot for leisurely breakfasts and Sunday afternoon snacks.
More than a century of chocolate, theater, and literature

San Ginés celebrates 132 years of history. Its fame grew among theatergoers in Madrid who were looking for a place to extend their evening with chocolate and churros. That nightlife and cultural scene also found its way into literature: Ramón María del Valle-Inclán evoked the atmosphere of the capital’s chocolate shops in *Luces de Bohemia* through the well-known “Buñolería Modernista,” a reference that the establishment associates with its own identity.
Its menu promises more than just chocolate with churros. While its freshly made porras are the flagship item here, San Ginés also offers chocolate delicacies, truffles, chocolate bars, fine chocolates, and artisanal pastries. In other words, there will be options to enjoy at the table as well as to take home.
The brand is incorporating this opening into its expansion plan, which, as explained in its press release, already includes numerous locations:
"Notable locations include Madrid, Marbella, and Logroño, with an international presence in markets such as the United States and, more recently, the Philippines."
