Sundays retain the spirit of morning outings—from markets to exhibitions, taking time for breakfast; and why not finish with a beer? The cultural event on October 11 is presented by the Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art, which is celebrating its monthly series “Dance at the CAAC.”
The event starts at 12:00 p.m. and features a double bill that takes place in two of the museum’s monumental spaces. Admission is free until capacity is reached, so it’s a good idea to arrive early.
The series, curated by María González Vidal, will celebrate its third edition in 2026. Each session combines two pieces and takes the audience through different corners of the museum complex. This time, the featured works are “Extender como si pudieras” by Julia Laport and “Bailar contigo” by Víctor Zambrana.
Julia Laport: Pushing the Body to Its Limits in the Patio del Claustrón
The day begins in the Patio del Claustrón with Laport’s piece, which explores the limits and boundlessness of the body. The choreographer seeks to push the physical boundary and ask what lies beyond.
To achieve this, it contrasts the precision of Vogue and Popping with the fluidity of Waacking and contemporary dance. Igor Teo and Gena Baamonde are collaborating on the choreography, and Martín Gonçalves Campos is providing artistic and visual support.
Laport is a Galician performer and creator. She trained in the performing arts in her hometown and in 2011 moved to London, where she spent five years studying Popping, Hip Hop, Vogue, House, and Waacking. Over the past seven years, she has specialized in Waacking, a club dance style. In 2017, she co-founded the company “Elahood” with Sabela Domínguez.
In 2021, both won first prize and the critics’ award at the 35th Madrid Choreography Competition, as well as the award for best performance at the DZM Festival’s “Contemporary Dialogues” platform for “Intempestiva.”
Víctor Zambrana: Hildegard of Bingen in the Patio de Pérgolas
Next, the audience moves to the Patio de Pérgolas, where Seville-based dancer Víctor Zambrana presents “Bailar contigo,” a twenty-minute piece.
Zambrana brings the mysticism and sacred compositions of Saint Hildegard of Bingen to the public space .
It does so in dialogue with singer Mónica Muñoz Marchena, whose live voice unfolds against an electronic soundscape. Muñoz Marchena also participates in the creation of this soundscape, based on the work of Hildegard.
Instantaneous composition is the language of the piece. The beginning and end are adapted in each performance to the architecture, natural light, and the flow of passersby, so that each performance is designed specifically for its location.
Zambrana is a dancer, choreographer, illustrator, set designer, and Naam Yoga instructor. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and completed his training in contemporary dance at the Andalusian Dance Center.
She lived in Barcelona for 21 years, where she worked with numerous companies, and today she teaches in Seville at centers such as ECAES. She created “Del estado natural” to open the Mes de Danza de Sevilla festival and participated in the “¡Ahora! Danza” series. Almost all of her productions are conceived for unconventional spaces and feature live music.
