Spain’s National Day is the first holiday on the Andalusian work and school calendar following the end of summer; however, Andalusian retailers consider this holiday one of the days authorized for stores to open in Andalusia. That said, the decision varies depending on each chain’s policy; therefore, which supermarkets and big-box stores will be open this Monday, October 12, in Seville?
Hypermarkets and chains that will be open in Seville
The major large-format chains will operate as usual or on special holiday hours throughout the day:
- Carrefour: Its main hypermarkets (such as Macarena and San Pablo) and stores in metropolitan areas like Camas and Montequinto will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. As for its convenience stores— Carrefour Express and Carrefour Market —they will also be open during their regular hours.
- Alcampo—which, incidentally, is the cheapest supermarket in Seville according to the OCU—will open its large stores, including the locations in Tamarguillo and Seville East (Aleste Plaza). Its holiday hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (some specific services open at 11:00 a.m.).
- El Corte Inglés and Hipercor, located in Plaza del Duque, Nervión, and Sevilla Este, will be open to the public during their authorized holiday hours, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- Stores in shopping centers: Food stores located within complexes such as Lagoh, Los Arcos, Torre Sevilla, or Nervión Plaza will remain open during their usual hours from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Which stores and brands will be closed on the holiday
For last-minute shopping, it’s a good idea to keep in mind the stores that will be closed:
- Mercadona follows its usual policy of closing on Sundays and national holidays, so all of its supermarkets in Seville and the surrounding province will be closed.
- Lidl and Aldi will close most of their conventional stores in the city. Only in exceptional cases may certain specific locations in high-traffic or commercial areas open for a reduced morning shift (usually from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).
- DIA will keep its standard stores closed, operating only authorized convenience store franchises or DIA Go locations.
