In Seville, there’s a tapa that amazingly inspires devotion in almost everyone—and it’s not gildas or pan bao. Chicharrones—which haven’t become trendy because they’ve never gone out of style—are now the focus of several dedicated festivals, and this weekend marks yet another one: the Chicharronada in Mairena del Alcor.
Mairena del Alcor Chicharronada: Schedule, Lineup, and Performances
On Saturday, September 19, this Sevillian town will be celebrating this classic of Andalusian cuisine, which consists of fried pork rinds—not to be confused with the chicharrón from Cádiz.
Specifically, the event will take place at the Caseta Municipal from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m.
The chicharrones, however, won’t be the only highlights of the event, which is organized by the Hermandad de la Borriquita de Mairena del Alcor, in collaboration with CarniceríaMairena.
The Chicharronada will feature a bar serving drinks and other tapas at reasonable prices, as well as live music by the Ángel Martín Flamenco Company and DJ Carlos Rodríguez in the evening.
There will also be dance performances by the María & Alba Serrano Dance School and the Rosario Jiménez Dance Academy.
How to get there and tips for enjoying the day
Admission to the Caseta Municipal in Mairena del Alcor is free until capacity is reached, and it takes just about 25 minutes to get there by car from Seville. To reach the town, take the A-92 and exit onto the A-398.
For those wishing to attend by public transportation, the M-126 intercity bus line provides regular service between the capital and the town.
As for the perfect pairing to enhance your chicharrones experience, experts recommend enjoying them fresh out of the fryer with a very cold beer or a glass of manzanilla wine to complement their crispy texture.
