Going to the toilet in Seville will no longer be free (or so cheap). The City Council has approved a new ordinance regulating the cost of public toilets and bike stations in Seville with the aim of covering maintenance costs. Specifically, using the toilets in Plaza de España will now have a fixed cost.
How much will it cost to use a public restroom in Seville?
From now on, the standard price for using public restrooms—taking those in Plaza de España (corner of Isabel la Católica and Rodríguez Caso) as a reference—will be €0.70.
-
Price increase: This represents an increase of 10 cents from the current €0.60.
-
Extendable to the whole city: This 70-cent fee will not only apply in Plaza de España, but will also be the standard for any new toilets that the City Council installs in the future.
Rates at bike stations: San Bernardo as a model
The new ordinance also brings order to bicycle parking. In the case of the San Bernardo Bike Station as a reference, although it will apply to other similar facilities, the rules are as follows:
-
For the first 24 hours, the service will be completely free of charge.
-
From the second day onwards , a charge of €0.10 will be applied for each additional hour.
As with the toilets, this pricing model will apply to any other similar locations that will soon be set up in Seville.
The Seville City Council emphasized to El Correo that for a city of 680,000 inhabitants that receives almost five million tourists a year, the management of these basic services has become a priority in terms of maintenance and civic behavior.
