In the midst of the Halloween season, it has been announced that one of Isla Mágica’s iconic attractions will bid farewell this 2026 season. The Navío Barbarroja, Isla Mágica’s traditional swinging pirate ship, is making its final voyages after decades of rocking generations of visitors on Isla de la Cartuja. Its retirement on November 8 marks the end of an era for one of the most recognizable landmarks at the Seville theme park.
Opened in 2010, during the park’s early years following Expo ’92, the Navío Barbarroja was a classic Viking ship-style ride, or rotating pendulum ride (manufactured by the specialized firm Huss Rides).
Strategically located in the Puerta de América themed area, next to the shore of the central lake, it offered an experience accessible to the whole family, rising to the point of intense weightlessness at its highest points.
The closure of this attraction reflects the natural evolution of theme parks. On the one hand, there is a need to incorporate more modern technology; on the other, it is due to significant structural wear and tear and the high maintenance costs associated with aging machinery. As a result, the space will be freed up and made available for future installations.
