Seville is gearing up for the solar eclipse that will create historic scenes across the entire peninsula on August 12. Initiatives such as the distribution of free eclipse glasses by ONCE and the public stargazing event organized by Huévar del Aljarafe will allow people to observe the event in complete safety.
This town in the Aljarafe region is organizing an event to enjoy the spectacle locally, where the Moon will obscure more than 94% of the Sun’s disk at sunset.
The initiative is part of the educational series “Huévar Exploring the Sky,” and for the occasion, it will distribute certified solar viewing glasses free of charge to attendees.
A gathering spot in Seville’s Aljarafe region
The event will take place at the municipal soccer field in Huévar del Aljarafe, a spacious, unobstructed area ideal for observing the western horizon.
In addition to ensuring the eye safety of residents and visitors during the eclipse’s peak, the event will continue into the night. It will thus take advantage of the coincidence with the peak of the Perseids, the famous “Tears of Saint Lawrence.”
Safety Note: Looking directly at the Sun without filters certified to the ISO 12312-2 standard can cause irreparable damage to the retina.
