La Madrugá is the heart of Seville’s Holy Week. Silence reigns over the night, as time-honored tradition blends with the popular fervor of the neighborhoods. Six brotherhoods traverse the city on a journey that begins just after midnight and lasts well past noon on Good Friday.

El Silencio
Absolute silence and chapel music. Departs from San Antonio Abad at 1:00 a.m. Bell: 1:15 a.m. | Cathedral: 2:25 a.m. | Arrival: 6:05 a.m. Don’t miss the departure and the procession through the narrow street of El Silencio.
Gran Poder, the “Lord of Seville”
Nuestro Padre Jesús del Gran Poder and María Santísima del Mayor Dolor y Traspaso depart from San Lorenzo at 1:00 a.m. Bell: 1:50 a.m. | Cathedral: 3:00 a.m. | Arrival: 7:45 a.m. Among the most beautiful scenes are their procession through the Plaza del Museo or Gravina Street in the dim light.
La Macarena and El Sentencia
Popular fervor and the neighborhood transformed into a brotherhood. Its floats, Nuestro Padre Jesús de la Sentencia and María Santísima de la Esperanza Macarena, are major highlights of Seville’s Holy Week. It is the largest procession, with 4,000 penitents. The most iconic moment is the procession down Parras Street in broad daylight amid a shower of flower petals.
El Calvario
Sober elegance from La Magdalena. Departs at 4:00 a.m. Bell: 4:53 a.m. | Cathedral: 6:03 a.m. | Arrival: 8:10 a.m. One of the most iconic moments of the Brotherhood is the passage of the Cristo del Calvario through the Postigo del Aceite at the first light of dawn.
Esperanza de Triana
The soul of the neighborhood crosses the bridge with joy. Departs from Pureza at 1:40 a.m. Bell: 5:21 a.m. | Cathedral: 6:31 a.m. | Arrival: 1:45 p.m.
The return via Altozano and the procession’s entry into its chapel, with the entire neighborhood turned out, are unforgettable.
Los Gitanos
Mysticism, saetas, and an unmistakable procession. Our Father Jesus of Health and Holy Mary of Sorrows depart from the Sanctuary of El Valle at 2:30 a.m. Bell: 6:47 a.m. | Cathedral: 7:57 a.m. | Arrival: 1:30 p.m. The greeting at the Palacio de las Dueñas is iconic.
