It doesn’t take much to decide to take a break and hit the road. From the towns surrounding Seville to the neighboring provinces, Sundays spent hiking or, as is the case this weekend, the hugely popular Medieval Festival in Almodóvar del Río.
An hour and a half from Seville, the town that is home to the iconic Altojardín Castle (‘Game of Thrones’) embarks on this journey through time.
When are the Medieval Days at Almodóvar Castle held?
For one weekend, the Cordoba fortress will leave the 21st century behind to recreate the bloody battle between Pedro I ‘The Cruel’ and Henry II of Castile. Its walls, squares, and rooms will house an entire medieval village so that visitors can discover what life was like in the 14th century.
The Town Hall and the fortress management have confirmed that the event will take place on March 14 and 15, 2026. During these two days, the castle will be transformed into an authentic medieval setting.
In this way, attendees will be able to tour a military camp from the period, witness real combat between knights, and interact with historical figures who explain life in the 14th century.
Travelers will also be treated to impressive views of the Guadalquivir Valley from its walls.
Timetable and ticket prices
Due to its popularity each year, it is recommended to purchase tickets in advance on the heritage monument’s website. The experience costs €18 per person, €13 for children between 5 and 13 years old, and is free for children under 5.
As for opening hours, on Saturday the atmosphere and activities will continue from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Along with the attractions offered by this enclave, it is also interesting to visit the La Breña reservoir or drop by Hornachuelos, a neighboring village full of hiking trails.
