The VIII Ecija Roman Festival and the IX Gastronomic Route “Tapeando como Romanos” will be held from Wednesday 12 to March 16. An event around the Roman legacy of the Sevillian town that will integrate guided tours, workshops and a series of gastronomic activities.
The Department of Culture and Tourism of the City Council recovers this cultural event that aims to value and promote the history of Ecija.
Eight restaurants will participate in this eighth gastronomic route offering tapas based on recipes from Roman times.
In other words, the event will allow attendees to taste dishes as authentic Romans. Elaborations that integrate ingredients and recipes from the historical volume of Apicius and whose cooks have been advised by archaeologists for this purpose. Those interested will be able to take part in them from Thursday 13.
Programming of the Ecija Roman Festival
The Ecija Roman Festival will last for four days, starting with the Roman wine tasting on Wednesday 12. The activities within the festival program, although free of charge, have limited places and to attend them must be booked in advance.
- The inauguration will take place in the Mosaic Room of the Municipal Historical Museum at 8:00 pm.
- On Thursday, March 13, the workshop for adults The Lust of the Gods is scheduled at Las Ninfas Restaurant at 8:00 pm. It lasts 1 hour and includes wine and two tapas.
- Friday includes two major activities: a guided tour of the Plaza de Armas Archaeological Site at 6:30 p.m. and the Roman Banquet Frumentaria. The latter consists of a scientific tasting, 3 wine pairings and a menu set in Roman times. In this case, it is priced at 35 € and will take place at Las Ninfas Restaurant at 8:00 pm.
Saturday, March 15
Saturday’s day is one of the busiest of this festival and includes:
- At 11 a.m. Dr. Sergio Garcia-Dils de la Vega will give a lecture in the Municipal Historical Museum Stores. It will be developed around the epigraph of the nuncupatio votorum. Imperial worship and civic religion in Colonia Augusta Firma.
- At the same time, the Plaza de Armas Archaeological Site will host a visit and mosaic workshop for families. Each reservation admits only one accompanying family member.
- Artivm Ac Vitae will give the workshop for adults “The aurifex. Create your jewelry like a Roman goldsmith”.
- Saturday’s program culminates the puppet festival “The Adventures of the God Bacchus” in the stables of the Palace of Benamejí. There are two sessions scheduled, at 18:00 and 19:00 hours. Free access without reservation until full capacity is reached.
Last day of the Roman festival, Sunday program
- The doctor in Ancient History Fernando Lozano Gómez will start the day with the conference “Religion in the Ancient World of Colonia Augusta Firma” in the Stables of the Palace of Benamejí at 11:00 am.
- It repeats the visit and the workshop for mosaics at 11:00 hours.
- At 12:00 hours you can enjoy the guided tour of the Archaeological Site Plaza de Armas.
