Musicians, amateurs and those eager to get started in jazz are summoned to the 27th edition of the University of Seville Jazz Festival. The best of this genre will take place in Seville from October 18 to 26, 2024.
Once again this year, the number of artists and stages involved has increased and continues to establish itself as one of the most renowned events of this genre in Andalusia.
Big local and international names such as Hero Trio, led by saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa or the prestigious pianist Fred Hersch are part of the roster of artists included in its program.
Various venues in the city will host performances of all kinds over the next week. Spaces such as the Cicus building, the Espacio Turina and the headquarters of Assejazz.
Thus, some of the cultural centers and halls of Seville will be filled with the best rhythms in light of this edition of the Jazz Festival of the University of Seville, which will run until October 26.
CICUS is behind the organization of this festival, hand in hand with UNIA, Assejazz and ICAS in which fifty Andalusian and Spanish musicians will participate.
Jazz Festival Guide: artists and program
- Rob Clearfield trio, the vibraphonist/marimba player Andrés Coll, Guillermo McGill Trio and the multi-instrumentalist singer Triz will open this edition on October 18 at 21:30 at the headquarters of Assejazz.
- On Saturday, same space and time, repeats Rob Clearfield Trio & Su Terry and joins the emerging saxophonist Maria Esther Quartet.
- The CICUS Auditorium will offer on Monday 21 at 20:30 pm the film and jazz session ‘They Shot the Pianist’, by Javier Mariscal and Fernando Trueba.
- For its part, the Espacio Turina will host the Andalusia Big Band on Wednesday October 23 at 20:00.
- On Thursday, October 24, Sergio De Lope will exhibit Binaural at the same space and time.
- The weekend will concentrate some of the most memorable appointments. Namely: Rudresh Mahanthappa and Hero Trio at Espacio Turina at 8:00 pm. In addition, the Asejazz Big Band, with the participation of Javier Ortí, will play at the CICUS at 12:30 pm.
- Fred Hersh will close this edition with his ‘Silent, Listening’.
These names will showcase their music in the city in this bid to expand the international presence without forgetting its commitment to local and national musicians.
