Much like Heraclitus’s philosophy, Huelva’s beaches are in a state of constant transformation. Among them, one magical spot stands out, defying the laws of coastal physics. An impressive sandbar that, far from losing sand, grows at an unstoppable rate of 30 meters a year.
This is the Flecha de El Rompido, a pristine beach and home to endangered plant species. Moreover, this paradise is the only beach in Andalusia with three shores.
Due to Atlantic currents and sediments from the Piedras River, the spit now extends beyond its usual 12 kilometers, running parallel to the coast.
A destination for those seeking unique getaways and natural wonders, less than an hour and a half from Seville.
A phenomenon of three shores and a living landscape

Venturing into the Marismas del Río Piedras and Flecha de El Rompido Natural Area is like entering a constantly changing landscape. Its capricious morphology offers travelers an experience impossible to replicate anywhere else along the Andalusian coast.
And it is precisely these three sides that explain the uniqueness of this coastal setting.
- The Atlantic shore faces the open sea, where water sports can be enjoyed.
- On the other side, the riverbank offers a gentle, sheltered slope facing the Piedras River.
- The ephemeral shore is the third waterline, which appears and disappears with the tides, creating inland lagoons and marshland landscapes that change completely depending on the time of day.
Unspoiled nature and freedom: Nueva Umbría Beach
At the heart of this strip of land lies Nueva Umbría Beach, a virtually untouched setting surrounded by dunes, rushes, and stone pines.
A sanctuary of biodiversity where it is common to spot migratory birds such as flamingos, herons, and cormorants. Furthermore, this isolation led to it becoming, in 2001, the first official nude beach in the province of Huelva (managed by the municipality of Lepe), and today it is a destination of choice for lovers of naturism and freedom.
A Practical Guide for Your Getaway to El Rompido

The fishing village of El Rompido and its lighthouses
