The central government’s omnibus decree, which included aid to public transport -free and discounts on season tickets that had been extended in recent years-, the rise in the SMI and the increase in aid to sectors affected by the DANA, was rejected this Wednesday in the Congress of Deputies.
The vote finally leaned towards the “no” with the refusal of the PP and Junts, with 171 votes in favor and 177 against.
What will happen now to public transport in Seville?
The transport subsidies, which had been in force since 2022, inserted in the decree, would cease to be in force from January 22, 2024.
In other words: as of tomorrow, it will no longer be possible to apply for discounts and free passes on Cercanías and Media Distancia managed by Renfe (and dependent on the State) or those affecting state bus lines.
For its part, in Seville, the fares of Transportes Urbanos, Sociedad Anónima Municipal (TUSSAM) will remain unchanged.
What if I have already purchased my season ticket?
In any case, the last extension was approved at the end of 2024 for a period of 6 months. Therefore, the discounts will be maintained until June 30, 2025.
In other words, those users who have already purchased their Cercanía season tickets will be able to use them with discounts during the period of validity, as confirmed by the Ministry of Transport to El País.
