In Seville, the month of May brings a packed schedule, and every weekend calls for a decision: stay in the city or head out. This week, the scales tip without much debate toward the latter, just an hour and a half by car. That’s because El Puerto de Santa María is hosting the 27th Fiesta de los Patios Portuenses (2026) from May 14 to 17.
It’s four days of open doors and free admission to spaces that, for the most part, remain closed or have restricted access the rest of the year. The Barrio Alto becomes a lively circuit where the most typical local spots and neighborhood patios are transformed into stages for flamenco, poetry, and glasses of fino.
What awaits you at the Fiesta de los Patios?
24 courtyards and the work of some 500 residents who, for yet another year, are decked out one of El Puerto de Santa María’s most unique heritage sites: from palace houses like the Casa de los Leones or the Casa-palacio Oneto, to old hospitals like the Hospitalito and historic distilleries like Destilerías Pico. Spaces bathed in flowers where you can enjoy a full program of completely free activities, the main highlights of which are:
- Live music: flamenco at Cielo 60, rociero choirs at Cacao Pico, and even flamenco zumba fitness at the Hospitalito.
- Theatrical performances such as *Mujeres en un patio de vecinos* at the Casa del Reloj.
- Poetry recital at the Rafael Alberti Foundation.
- Paint & Wine Workshops at the Casa del Reloj.
- And, of course, there are tastings of tomato soup at Cielo 60, liqueur and tejas at Destilerías Pico, tapas at La Brújula, and bottled sangria at Casa del Reloj.
Schedule and route for “Los Guisos de Nuestros Patios”
Although the opening is on Thursday the 14th, the bulk of the visits and activities are concentrated from Friday to Sunday with these general hours (some have different hours, which you can check here):
- Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th: from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- Sunday, May 17: 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Once there, each courtyard features ambassadors who recount its history on-site, informational posters, and an audio guide via QR code.
And what about food? Well, more than thirty bars in the historic center have signed up for the “Los Guisos de Nuestros Patios” Gastronomic Route, offering a traditional stew tapa paired with local fino sherry at a price ranging from 3 to 7 euros.
How to get to El Puerto de Santa María from Seville
The train is the easiest option. Renfe’s Seville-Cádiz line departs from Santa Justa several times a day and reaches El Puerto in just over an hour, with tickets starting at €10 if you buy them in advance.
The drive takes the same amount of time as the bus— an hour and a half. It’s 120 km on the AP-4, and upon arrival, it’s best to park in the downtown underground garages: driving around Barrio Alto looking for a spot isn’t worth it. If you’re taking the bus, Transportes Generales Comes runs the route between Plaza de Armas and the El Puerto station, starting at €8.
Where to stay: an 18th-century monastery five minutes from Barrio Alto

If the idea is to make the most of the weekend, very close to where the Fiesta de los Patios is centered is the Crisol Monasterio de San Miguel. It is a former 18th-century monastery converted into a hotel that preserves its Baroque façade, the original cloister, and the Andalusian courtyard. Staying here has a special charm, as the rooms occupy the space of the former cells and breakfast is served under the vaults of its old refectory
It’s the perfect way to round out the plan, especially knowing that this summer it will debut as the venue for the magical Candlelight concerts. The monastery thus joins the Castillo de San Marcos in hosting these musical tributes by candlelight, becoming one of the most exclusive spots to enjoy live music in El Puerto.
