There are not few appointments that once had a handful of faithful and today summon an enthusiastic crowd. This is suggested, for example, by the emblematic parade in commemoration of Diego Velázquez, organized by the Tercio de Olivares Association and the Fundación Casa Natal of the Sevillian painter with the collaboration of the Medinaceli Foundation.
It is celebrated on June 14 in a route that lasts about 2 hours from the Casa de Pilatos. In front of the imposing building will be read a bando around the palace and its link with the painter.
From the palace complex this procession will lead to the Plaza del Salvador, the Duke, returning to the Church of San Pedro around 21:10 hours, reaching the Casa Natal de Velázquez to return to the starting point at 22:00 hours.
The occasion commemorates two anniversaries: the 426th anniversary of the birth of the painter as well as the 400th anniversary of the Surrender of Breda, which Velázquez portrayed in his ‘Painting of the Spears’.
The tour, which is celebrating its seventh edition, will review some of the relationships, milestones and paintings linking the illustrious painter with the city and even recreate one of them next to his birthplace.
