The Andalusian provinces, under penalty of the high temperatures, are forced to tolerate the summer months by embellishing their nights with plans of various kinds. Summer cinemas or musical cycles are added to the natural treasures of some inland villages. Far from denigrating these destinations in summer, they are ideal getaways away from the hustle and bustle of the beaches. For example, Cañaveral de León (Huelva) reserves one of the most unusual experiences of the summer: a lagoon that serves for recreational bathing during the summer and is located in the middle of the municipality.
The good news is that it will take you just 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach this municipality and its popular pool.
This pool, which was initially used to irrigate orchards, has just started its season; last year it did so on June 28 after four summers without being available to bathers.
This 2025, however, looks like one of the most fun plans near Seville for those who prefer to get away from the beaches. The space is most peculiar, because although Cañaveral de León only concentrates about 400 inhabitants, during the summer brings together hundreds of curious and curious.
The lagoon of Cañaveral de León
The hydraulic catalog of Cañaveral de León is extensive and all the elements that integrate it were created with the purpose of taking advantage of the water for all possible purposes. And the lagoon was not going to be less.
A main spring runs through several municipalities of the province and in Cañaveral it can be seen through La Fuente Redonda, of Arab origin.
The lagoon collects the surplus water from the spring and from there distributes it to different pools in the orchards. The result, in summers that are not particularly dry, is an improvised swimming pool in the middle of the village.
The stamp is inspiring. Exploring some of the many hiking trails that cross the Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche Natural Park early in the morning; stroll the town’s cobblestone streets at the crack of noon and sample the waters of its lagoon.
And regarding its gastronomic goodness, a brushstroke: Cañaveral de León is one of the towns that constitute the Protected Designation of Origin Jabugo.
Recreational bathing hours
Regarding the hours of recreational bathing, this 2025 is from 12:00 to 22:00 and, although access is free, from the Consistory emphasize in a note that “voluntary donations are appreciated for the maintenance of the place. There is an urn available at the door of the town hall”.
On the other hand, it is forbidden to bathe pets or set up tables in the vicinity.
